Adult Garden Education Instructor
An avid vegetable gardener from childhood, Joe Ludes works as the teacher-trainer for the mid-Atlantic region of REAL School Gardens and as a Special Education instructor in the District of Columbia school system. Joe has worked with the Prince George’s County Master Gardeners; was a founder of the Walker Jones Education Campus School Garden; and has led workshops for the DC learning gardens in collaboration with the State Superintendent’s Office and DC Greens. He is the founder of the Hyattsville Urban Growers and sustainably farms his half-acre yard.
He has lived in North Carolina, Seattle, Hawaii, and the DC region and he can’t imagine ever leaving this area. His background is in philosophy and his other interests include community development, city planning, education, and playing with his two kids. Joe is thrilled to be working with Neighborhood Farm Initiative and helping to spread his knowledge of growing food while working to build strong communities.
